Dr. Drake on WDET Radio: Why Guided Ketamine Therapy Makes the Difference

The drug Ketamine has been in the news a lot lately, from rulings on the use of MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) for treatment of PTSD to the death of Mathew Perry in 2023.

According to the FDA, the use of the drug Ketamine to treat depression, anxiety and depression is on the rise.  And studies prove that the effects of ketamine can be long-lasting.

But is it the ketamine that cures the patient?  “No,” says Dr Cassius Drake of the Drake Center for Transformative Healing.  “Ketamine is the catalyst to change.”

Dr. Drake sits with WDET Radio host Tia Graham of The Metro show to explain how ketamine works and why a guided process with guardrails makes all the difference in a safe, effective treatment.

From the interview and why a guided process makes the difference

Dr. Drake explains to Graham what led him to pursue, along with his wife Jacqueline Drake, the creation of a clinic to heal people.   He saw the benefits of ketamine as an anesthetic while working for more than 30 years as an ER doctor.  He wanted to go deeper with the healing process.

Graham asks about the death of Mathew Perry, which has been reported as an overdose of ketamine.

Dr. Drake explains that ketamine itself is safe when given as part of a guided process.  The coroner’s report on Perry, as it turns out, is that he drowned in his hot tub.  Like any drug, using it in an unsafe way can lead to health risks.

At the Drake Center, ketamine is part of a paradigm where it’s the catalyst to change.

Drake goes on to explain how the FDA already approved ketamine as an anesthetic and became helpful in therapy as a result of an “off-label” study to treat depression.

At the Drake Center, we use it as part of a guided process, and not only do you feel less depressed, but you’re also going to gain some insight about yourself.  You’re going to have an experience that allows you to shift your relationship with depression, not just less depressed.  You’ll shift your relationship with sadness and it happens with guided therapy, coaching and the integration of a process we call The Way of the Butterfly.

Ketamine is a powerful change agent when used with guardrails.  The Drake Difference is the services we provide in the process.  We teach you how to learn from the insights you gain.  We used mindful meditation, art, virtual reality, and other creative experiences to help draw out change and make it last a lifetime.
